Note: If you are interested in adopting a lab you must first submit an Adoption Application to Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue.
The process of reviewing applications may take two or three days. A phone interview and home visit must also take place
before an adoption is completed. If you have specific questions about a particular dog, please submit your application for
adoption and we will be happy to discuss which dog(s) you are interested in then. We can not guarantee that the dog that
you are interested in will still be available after your application has been reviewed and processed.

Sweet Miley is looking for her forever home with someone who will help her regain the puppyhood she lost. She is settling into her foster home and loves to romp with her foster siblings so she would enjoy a home with another dog, but perhaps one with a little less energy than herself. She does not guard her food but is a very enthusiastic eater. Yep, she’s a lab! She is a little too interested in cats (and small things that move fast) so a cat-less home with older children who have been around dogs is recommended. Miley loves to be with her foster family and can be found either sleeping on the couch or by your chair (or in your lap if you let her!). Get your scratching hand in shape and be prepared to exercise it as she loves the attention!
Miley likes a consistent routine including a good walk, run or hike on a daily basis. She has so much potential and would benefit greatly from obedience classes where she could practice commands and learn that she does not need to be such a joyous greeter! Classes would also help her adjust to being around other dogs and new situations in a non-threatening environment and strengthen the bond between Miley and her new person. Consistent, kind, handling will help her build her confidence. A rewarding experience for both of you!
This girl responds to quiet, calm advances and does not like to be cornered, probably a result of her previous life. She loves to throw around her stuffed animals or chase the balls, but hasn’t quite got a handle on the retrieve part yet. Miley can be very focused and would possibly do well at agility, rally, fly ball – a job! She does best in a crate or enclosed area when riding in the car and willing goes in her crate to snooze all night long. Looking for a great companion to love? Miley is right here under your nose so check her out today!

Miley was kept in a pen in the Ozarks of Missouri where she was bullied by another dog and not allowed to eat. |

Rugby is a complete lover boy who always wants to be where his people are and snuggle, snuggle, snuggle! He has easily won the hearts of his foster family, who cannot say enough good things about this boy. Rugby is still very much a puppy, so he will need a family that can help him work on basic commands and to teach him that counter surfing for food isn’t appropriate in most homes. He is a very smart dog and certainly knows the word “treat”, so food motivated training could be perfect for him. Rugby absolutely loves his dog bed, playing with other dogs (especially a good game of tug of war), and has also done well around cats. While his foster is away, Rugby does best free to roam the house and as long as the counters are clear of food, this boy is a gentleman. His foster is working on getting him adjusted to car rides, as this is somewhat unknown territory for Rugby, but he is becoming more and more relaxed on road trips, especially if it involves going somewhere to get food. Ruby enjoys his walks and does excellent on or off a leash and would be the perfect walking or hiking companion. This boy has been known to jump a fence or two, so a 6ft fence in his new yard, as well as monitoring him while he is outside, will be a must. He is a sweetheart who aims to please and is looking for his forever family who will be eager to work on Rugby’s training as he grows up and will appreciate and adore him and his lover attitude!

This spunky girl is full of love and energy to share! Abbi is a playful, happy lab who loves to be where her people are! She enjoys the best of both worlds – she loves to play fetch and act like a puppy, yet also can appreciate some quiet down time, especially if it means sitting next to you on the couch for a good scratch session or to give you kisses. This lady is quite sharp, and has already learned how to heel on walks and the joys of a tennis ball in the short time she has been with her foster. She is gaining her confidence with her new environment and new people and is eager to become your best friend. Abbi gets along great with her foster dog brother and is the perfect pup roaming around the house while her foster is at work – kennels are not an option for this girl, but she is so well behaved on her own that she hasn’t shown any reason to need them. Being such an intelligent and eager to please lab, Abbi would do great with basic obedience training to get her settled in to her new home and family, as she has already proved to be a quick learner and responds well to positive reinforcement. Abbi has done great around kids but would do best in a family with older children due to her puppy-like enthusiasm at times, who will also help take an active role in Abbi’s training. She is a beautiful and happy dog looking for a forever home full of stability, patience, and love that will help her reach her full potential of a perfect indoor family dog.

Hi Im Olive. I had to take time out in my search for my forever home to give birth to my 8 beautiful puppies. I had a really rough start but havent lost my love of people. I can be a little scared of men and new situations at first but I adore my foster dads. I'm learning about walking on a leash and am a very good girl in my kennel at night. My foster moms dont think I have ever had toys before and at just about two years old I'm discovering how to play. Olive is a very smart girl with beautiful sherry colored eyes and can be a little pushy with other dogs over food but probably had to be to survive. She loves to give kisses and cuddles and hasn't had an accident in the house for about a month. She now knows sit. She is a little stubborn would benefit from obedience training. She is a gentle, attentive and playful mom and would do best in a home with older children. Her perfect forever home would be patient and kind. Olive promises to be your very best friend forever. |

Miss Bonnie is a petite little love bug! So happy to be around you and soak up your affection. She is so sweet and mellow that she does great around her old foster brother and sister (13 & 14yrs old).. Not super interested in any dog toys but gets really excited when you pull out the leash! Bonnie is so grateful for your love that she likes to kiss your hands whenever they are in reach - definitely a people lover so would be great for a family that will give her lots of cuddle time. Bonnie will get in her kennel at night and settle right away. If left out of her kennel, she will do her best to get on your bed to snuggle but sleeps great through the night next to your bed.
We are working on basic commands with this little girl but she is so eager to please, I'm sure it won't take long! She eats great along side her foster siblings.. just and all round sweetie! |

Thor is a total sweetheart. All he wants is to be as close as possible. He likes to curl up right at the base of the couch just in case you want to pet him. He loves to play, run around in the park, and fetch the ball. Thor knows "sit", "stay" and is working on "down". He plays very well with other dogs at the dog park and he loves his temporary sister Bella, who is about half of his size. Thor especially loves snow-- he alternates hopping like a bunny through snow and burrowing his head in it. He is excitable outside and needs his exercise but inside, he is very mellow and lies down and goes to sleep. He occasionally chews on dog toys but doesn't have a strong chewing urge-- he has never chewed on anything he wasn't supposed to. Thor does have a little bit of separation anxiety so he would most likely thrive in a household that already has another dog or one where a person is home a lot (at least at first). Overall, Thor is a very loving and sweet companion! |

I am the sweetest little cuddle bug you could ever ask for! I still have a bit of puppy in me and love to play hard and then crash out for a nap. When I meet new people I get excited and jump up a bit but my foster mom is working with me on this. Once I've calmed down, I'm a medium energy level pup. I've just discovered balls and am still figuring out how to play fetch... I understand chasing but am still learning how to bring them back. As you can tell from my pictures I LOVE THE SNOW and playing tug with my big brother!!! Stuffed toys are really fun to chew on and sometimes I pull the fuzz out. I love to spend time cuddling on the couch or the bed and nothing beats stretching out on my back for a good belly run. I already know basic commands like come, sit and have even mastered high 5! I really enjoy riding in the car and putting my head out the window, especially when we take the car to the dog park. That place is AWESOME!!! I'm learning that I need to stay in the way back, but sometimes sneak into the back seat to be closer to my mom. I've had lots of opportunities to play with other dogs at the dog park and doggy day care and play very well with all shapes and sizes of dogs. I would do best in an active home where I could run, hike or play lots because it's just so much fun.
You may have noticed from my picture that my left eye has a cataract which distorts my vision slightly in that eye. The eye vet did all kinds of tests this week and said it's just a birth defect that will not progress any further. I also have a small dot on my right eye but my vision there is perfect and again, the spot will not progress. Besides that I'm healthy as an ox. I can't wait to find my forever home so please come meet me, I'm sure you'll fall in love!

Walks great on leash! Stays right by you, but likes to sniff around. He is unsure about moving cars and might lie down or cower away, but he is getting more confident as we walk more and encourage him.
|
|
Personality:
|
Sampson becomes one of the family fast. He's such a lover boy, giving kisses and snuggling, this guy wants to be around his family all the time. Sampson was shy, timid, and had no training when we first got him, but now in two short weeks he has learned "Sit", "Down", "Leave It", "Stay", "Kennel Up", "Come" and we are all working on "Give me five." He's so eager to please that we don't think it will be very long now. Sampson loves to go on walks and is such a gentleman on the leash. He doesn't stop to go to the bathroom on walks instead waiting until we get home to the back yard, so he makes a great walking and jogging partner although he can get a little scared in high car traffic areas. We haven't been able to take him off leash much, but I think with some more training he would do great! He loves to be outside and run around especially if you there to play with him. He is a chewer, but as long as he has his kong and bone he knows to chew only those things. Sampson would love to be with a family where he is not left home alone very often or maybe with another dog. He has a few seperation anxiety issues, but we have found that he is all right home alone as long as he is in his crate with a TV to watch (he loves spartan movies ). Sampson is still discovering what toys are. We can tell that he likes them, but just can't figure out what they are for yet, but we are hoping to play fetch with him as soon as he figures it out. He is alot of fun and can be a clown at times but mostly wants to be whereever you are, and he will try to wedge himself between members of family. Although Sampson is full grown he still has a puppy face and a very very cute pitiful looks, so be careful not to fall in love with him too fast! Sampson is very mild tempered, not aggressive in any way and a real sweet heart looking for his forever family. He plays hard outside and really takes it easy inside. He will need a little more training, but he is such a fast learner and incredibly responsive to praise he should be perfect family dog in no time!

Rudy definitely has a Lab personality and is one of the most loyal and obedient dogs I have met. Everything I do, he follows me and he barely needs a leash because he would never dare to leave my side. As I took a shower this morning I heard a little whimper so I opened the door a crack and when I came out he was laying on the bath mat waiting for me. He learned how to sit in about 30 minutes. He’s working on his other commands but he loves to fetch a ball and go for long walks. I call him my “boyfriend” because he’s the best cuddler around. He doesn’t love his crate and putting him in it was the only time I heard him bark but he sleeps nicely on the couch and tries his hardest to get into my bed. This is one truly special boy. Like all puppies, there are things he will need to be trained on and someone will need to take the time to work with him. He can be very calm for a puppy and just lay on the couch but very excited to see people and will jump and bark in greeting. Of course, something that a little training will fix. I’ve only had him for a little and I’m mesmerized! Anyone trying to adopt Rudy would be a lucky adopter! |

Gets along with people of all ages, children of all ages, other dogs also. Do not know about cats because we do not have any. She loves to go for car rides, does not like to walk on a leash with a collar, however, you put a harness on her and she’s a happy girl. She is sweet as could be, she will give up food or a treat to be brushed, scratched, or have you hold her hand. Her favorite thing to do whenever you open the crate is to hand you her paw, and with your other hand, scratch her arm pit and chest. She loves to sleep on a pillow, she will jump on a pillow you are trying to move or put into the crate and sit there looking at you like what, you want me to move? Her brown eyes have so much expression. She likes to pick up balls and pull ropes but does not want to play.
Roxanne came to me when she was about 2 months old. We have a flea market here where everyone gives puppies away. If a puppy is not given to someone, they are just left there. A real problem. The day Roxanne was there, no one wanted her. She was dumped there. This girl we know found her wondering down the highway next to the market and took her home. Roxanne being so young wasn’t house trained. So the girl would beat her with a newspaper for potting all over the place and didn’t bother to try to teach her. She also had a 2 year old boy. Hands busy. So the first week was a disaster. Nicole took her back to the market and tried to give her away again. No one wanted her. She went back to her house. My son was staying with Nicole and family at the time. A couple of weeks went by and this pattern with Roxanne and the potty went on, (my son was working and came there at night to sleep). One night we were having a severe storm and Roxanne got scared, peed her crate, Nicole was screaming at her and hitting her saying how she had had enough so she threw her out in the rain, her little head hitting the ground, crying. My son asked to bring her in, saying that he would clean up after her and she said NO. that night while they were asleep, Casy snuck her in and called us. Told us everything. Asked Nicole if we could have her, she said yes and take her right now. So, Roxanne came to us the next morning and has been with us since.
We are a new sub division and have a little lake in our backyard. Every other slat is missing so we can see the lake. When Roxanne was young the houses around us were being built. Roxanne would climb out in between the boards and go visiting the construction worker. They all thought she was a stray so they would feed her. I could never figure out why she wasn’t hungry. She would go play with our neighbors black labs where she learned how to play in the water, fish for clam s and crack them open. One time that I caught her after a break out, coming home, she had gone to the new home build site and stole one of the workers breakfast. She was bringing a bag with a breakfast sandwich home. We still laugh about it today. She is such a character!

Cash
Cash - 4 to 5 yo Staffy/Bull Terrier mix. Cash is a barrel of fun! He runs 5k's..he loves to hike 14ers, he loves to mountain bike. If you are active...he is your guy. He is not a dog for an inexperienced owner. He is a alpha dog, and can get possessive of his owner, he should be the only dog. However, he has played wonderfully with puppies! Very playful, focused and dedicated to his people. He takes his job seriously about protecting the house. He does love children, but my be to rambunctious for toddlers. He is already micro-chipped, neutered, and is house and crate trained. Cash must find a new home soon, as his master has leukemia and needs to have a sterile home. Are you the experienced, dedicated fitness buff Cash has been looking for?

Toby
Sheryl adopted Toby from a rescue three years ago. He has a wonderful disposition and loves everyone--people, kids, other dogs, cats--you name it, Toby loves them! In addition to Toby, Sheryl has 2 cats and a yorkie.Toby grooms the cats and eats out of the same bowl as the yorkie (when she lets him). He softens the rawhides for the yorkie then lets her take them away from him. What a guy! Toby loves to play, go for walks, and run. He's about 5 years old now but he has lots of energy. Just look at his smiling happy face!
So what's the problem? Sheryl has a job with very irregular hours that can keep her gone for 12 hours at a time. Toby wants and needs more attention and stimulation than she can give him. She has a fenced yard, but doesn't want to leave him outside while she's gone for so long--plus he can jump the 4 foot fence so it's not safe! Toby needs a family with kids to play with or someone who can spend more time walking and playing with him. Sheryl has been working with the group she rescued Toby from and taking him to adoption events at Petsmarts but that's not a good situation for Toby with all of the other dogs around. Since he has so much pent up energy, all he wants to do is play with all of the dogs and so the people don't see how much he really loves people too. Toby weighs about 75 pounds and is neutered and up-to-date on vacs. Sheryl would be happy to introduce you to Toby if you're interested in adopting him. She would also consider rescue but only if Toby would be with a foster. It's going to be so difficult for Toby to lose his family that she just doesn't want him to be in a boarding or shelter situaton.
If you could pass this along to friends, family, coworkers or others who might be able to help this sweet sweet boy, please contact Sheryl at 816-332-5254 (cell) or 816-333-5256 (home) or at s.rudy@fleacatering.com

Breed: Pug Mix
Weight: 30 pounds
Age: 5
Gender: male
Did animal arrive spayed or neutered?: yes
Did animal arrive vaccinated?: yes
Healthy/Unhealthy?: healthy
Notable medical conditions? no
Micro-chipped: Yes
Ajax is one of those guys that likes to cuddle. He has that sweet pug personality and would make a great companion. He does not need a lot of exercise and is well behaved. He is smart and eager to please. He gets along with all dogs when he is out and about and at the dog park but would do best living in a home with a female dog and with older kids. He loves to play with female dogs.

Spanky
Contact Donna at 303-557-8218 for information
A few months ago, Spanky's foster mom rescued him at a morbidly obese 120lbs. Unable to walk for more than 5 minutes or get into a car, to say it was a chore to get him to lose some pounds would be an understatement. After implementing a healthy diet, exercise, and some love, he is down to 95lbs. Unfortunately, his foster mom is down-sizing into an apartment and is eager to find him a loving home with a fenced yard. This is what she has to say about Spanky:

Spanky is an amazing dog. He is 5 years old, housebroken, non-destructive, loves to ride in the car, go on walks, sleeps by your bed and protects your home. He gets along well with children and other dogs. He is a mix and mostly yellow lab. He has the temperament of an angel. I am moving to an apartment so he needs a loving home that can provide him safety, exercise, a healthy diet and his thyroid meds. Neutered, up to date on all shots, heartworm free. Needs fenced yard as he will wander but is not an escape artist and a short fence is fine. Uses doggie door when needed.
She is asking for a 75.00 re-homing fee.

Dolly is a very sweet lab mix. She loves going on walks, hikes and being around people. Dolly needs a family that is active and around the house most of the day. Dolly has separation anxiety at times and does better when she is around her family often throughout the day. She can be left alone for some time without problems but is much happier with people. She gets along with everyone. She loves cats and
small animals, and gets along with most dogs. She has never bitten a person or animal and does not have a mean bone in her body. She has a lot of energy and really needs a family that can keep up with her. The more exercise she gets the less anxiety she has when left alone. She is potty and crate trained, however she has been able to get out of almost every crate when her anxiety occurs. Recently she has been staying in the house alone when we are gone. She knows basic commands and some fun tricks. She is very smart and learns very easily. We are very sad to give her up but we are very busy and can not give her the time and attention that she deserves.
